The Masked Singer is an unquestionable hit. There is a massive issue, however, that is tainting the show from being as great as it could be.

If you don’t like The Masked Singer, where superstars hide behind ridiculously elaborate costumes and belt out fan favorites in anonymity, then you’re severely missing out. It’s an incredible concept that is sure to continue because nearly every person in show business thinks they are talented beyond actual reality.

As a result, they all think they can drop a successful album. Like Paris Hilton or Kevin Federline. The show’s success, however, is sure to perpetuate a glaring problem unless something changes.

A quick recap of the season

The Robot was first to go this season. Since it was Lil’ Wayne, there was a minor surprise involved since he, ya know, uses his voice for a living. Second was the Llama, and to no real shock, Drew Carey unmasked as the person who couldn’t sing.

What followed, however, was Miss Monster, when it was obvious to anyone with ears that the person behind White Tiger has zero musical ability whatsoever. To make matters worse, it was clear Miss Monster had a superb voice.

The issue

Fan-voting in singing competitions is stupid. Miss Monster was the legendary Chaka Khan, and her removal cheats fans out of several more epic performances. Even worse, it permits potentially several more cringe-worthy performances from the White Tiger. The fans were not qualified to determine who was the better singer.

At best the majority of the crowd are tone-deaf housewives who feel compelled to the depths of their souls to caterwaul along with Carrie Underwood as she extols the cathartic virtues of vehicular criminal mischief. At worst, which is most likely, is the fact sincerity can’t be proven. That invites trolls.

Remember Sanjaya? Howard Stern’s group nearly ruined American Idol supporting him. Hell, William Hung has gained a cult following and his voice is worse than Fran Drescher laughing into a vuvuzela.

Polls being wrecked by trolls is nothing new. There’s the time people tried to send Taylor Swift to sing at a deaf school, or when Pitbull was sent to play at an Alaskan Walmart, and several others like Boaty McBoatFace and Mr. Splashy Pants.

To make matters worse, this is endemic to The Masked Singer. In Season 1, Gladys freaking Knight was sent home before Donny Osmond and T-Pain. In Season 2, Patti LaBelle left before seven others. And now this. Enough.

It’s a problem The Masked Singer needs to figure out quickly.
