During the last episode, Owen offered to do the recruit physical exam wearing full kit. It’s something nobody has done, which suggests that he is setting himself up for failure. However, Judd makes it clear that by Owen failing, the whole of the current 126 will be broken up. Billy doesn’t want the diverse group of firefighters on his squad and, instead, wants a team like the original 126.
Which side is Judd on throughout all this? Actually, it’s hard to call. His loyalty would be with Judd after so many years working with him but he has built a great relationship with Owen in the few short months they’ve been together. Judd respects Owen and kept Owen’s secret about the cancer. At no point has Judd questioned Owen’s ability to lead the team. We might see him fall on the side of his new captain.
