Grey’s Anatomy: Alex Karev is getting a send-off episode
The ultimate Grey’s Anatomy mystery surrounding Alex Karev’s whereabouts will be solved on March 5. Here’s what we know about his send-off episode.
Spoiler alert: This post will discuss details from Grey’s Anatomy Season 16, Episode 15.
After weeks of speculating, Grey’s fans will finally learn about Alex Karev’s fate. We’ve witnessed Jo go on a downward spiral as she’s attempted to solve the mystery on her own, but now she knows part of the truth: Alex isn’t with his mother. (Gasp!)
Yes, it appears to be true. When Link came to visit his dear friend, Jo said that she spoke to Alex’s mother, who confirmed that he was never in Iowa. We went from shock to heartbreak when Jo announced, “He left me.” But did he?

The post-show promo revealed Episode 16 will answer that question during an emotional send-off episode, “Leave a Light On,” on March 5. As you can see in the trailer down below, there’s no new footage advertised because Meredith and the docs will reflect on their history with Alex.
I’m absolutely thrilled that Alex is getting the send-off that he deserves, as opposed to just writing him off like we didn’t spend fifteen years falling in love with him. However, I fear Alex’s name could be added to the list of reasons why the hospital used to be called “Seattle Grace Mercy Death.”
Is Alex Karev dead? Let’s look at the facts. Last we saw him, he helped save Meredith’s career when she faced the medical board. He then lied to everyone, including his wife, about visiting his ailing mother. From what we can tell, his only contact in Seattle was Richard via text when Maggie joined Pac-North for a hot minute.
A deceitful, sudden disappearance and little communication spells trouble. My prediction is that Alex discovered his own health problem and decided he wasn’t going to let anyone treat him or mourn for him, so he left town. It’s not out of the realm for his character, but it is certainly a sad situation if it turns out to be true.
I have a hard time believing Alex would up and leave Jo over something minor after years of women leaving him. Not to mention these two have also been through thick and thin in the time they’ve known each other. Their love was real! Sadly, “til death do us part” may spell the end for Jolex.
