Former ER star Goran Visnjic is taking on the role of Count Dracula in the forthcoming series from ABC, The Brides. This isn’t the actor’s first time in a paranormal/supernatural setting.

Before putting on a white coat at County General in the ever-popular television series ER or joining the team in the time travel drama Timeless, Visnjic portrayed the less-than-stellar character of Jimmy Angelov in the movie, Practical Magic, which starred Sandra Bullock. The fantasy drama, which was released in 1998, was early in Visnjic’s career and gave him the opportunity to play a bad-boy role with a supernatural edge. Now, Visnjic has been cast as king of all vampires, Dracula, in ABC’s new supernatural drama series, The Brides which already stars Gina Torres, Katherine Reis, Chris Mason, and Sophia Tatum.

Though his brides will be the main focus of the show, Dracula will play a role as he is the reason the vampire sisters have joined together.

The plot summary, according to Deadline, describes the new series as a “family drama,” and the family couldn’t be complete without the vampire who started it all:

"…a sexy contemporary reimagining of Dracula, is a family drama with a trio of powerful female leads at its heart. With strong horror elements, The Brides is a vampire soap about empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their nontraditional family."

Whether this Dracula engenders viewer sympathy or is cast as the ultimate villain the brides seek to destroy remains to be seen, but all signs point to Goran Visnjic’s role as much more evil than the zombiefied character he ultimately played in Practical Magic.  The pilot episode of The Brides is being written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who developed Riverdale, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and The CW’s newest drama, Katy Keene, which are good indications of the dark drama we can expect.
