The movie Lost Girls is based on the book of the same name by Robert Kolker. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and received early praise. The movie is impactful and tough to watch, but empowering at the same time as it encourage audiences not to give up.
Lost Girls stars Amy Ryan stars as Mari Gilbert, a mother desperate to find her missing daughter. Law enforcement appears to be doing little to nothing to help after learning her daughter, Shannan, is a sex worker. Gilbert decides to take it upon herself to solve this. In her search, Gilbert finds the bodies of several other women, none of them Shannan, but police finally listen.

Knowing she’ll likely never see her daughter alive again, Gilbert refuses to give up until she solves what happened to Shannan. At Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a score of 64% fresh, with critics commenting how “hard-hitting” and “emotional” the movie is.
