Will HBO Max’s Green Lantern series star Arrow’s David Ramsey?
HBO Max has plans to introduce a Green Lantern series available only on its streaming service which will debut in May 2020. Fans want Arrow’s David Ramsey to lead the series.
A Green Lantern series has been in the works since October 2019. The Greg Berlanti production will focus on two Green Lanterns, and so far, no leads have been announced. That doesn’t stop fans of the superhero drama Arrow from pitching David Ramsey’s hat into the ring, especially since his involvement has already been teased.
On the series finale of Arrow, which aired in January, Ramsey’s character, John Diggle discovers what fans assume was the Green Lantern ring. The actual ring wasn’t shown, but the green glow certainly provided a big enough hint. Before Arrow ended, We Got This Covered confirmed that a Green Lantern series starring Ramsey had been pitched to The CW.
Crisis on Infinite Earths, the five-episode Arrowverse crossover that aired in December and January, erased the multiverse, and now all the superheroes share Earth Prime, which certainly opens the door for Green Lantern as that is his universe. So with the universes combined, Diggle finding a green glow. HBO Max picking up the series and things seem to be falling into place.
John Stewart was actually the first black Green Lantern in the DC Comics, but it wouldn’t be a stretch to have Diggle change his last name purely for his superhero persona as fans have speculated. And with the series being connected to Greg Berlanti, who was also the producer of Arrow, it makes sense that Diggle’s discovery of the ring would be a foretelling of his future.
To date, the Green Lantern series is still in development so viewers shouldn’t expect it to launch when HBO Max does. The new streaming service will cost $14.99 per month, but the promise of Green Lantern takes some of the sting out of the price.
