Sunday TV ratings: The Rookie steady, NCIS: New Orleans up, Good Girls down
The Rookie and NCIS: New Orleans enjoyed a good night in the TV ratings. The same couldn’t be said for Good Girls. Here’s a look at the Mar. 15 ratings.
The Sunday TV ratings for Mar. 15 are in. For the most part, TV shows saw strong boosts to the live ratings or were steady. This could certainly be due to more people self-isolating or choosing not to risk catching/unintentionally spreading COVID-19. However, there were a few shows that saw some dips. What do the TV ratings mean for the future of shows.
We’ll get the bad out of the way. The Wall debuted its third season, seeing a 33% dip in the demo and 26% dip in the audience compared to the Season 2 premiere last May. The ratings were also down from the Season 2 finale that aired in August.
More from Ratings
- Thursday TV ratings: Grey’s Anatomy up, Walker Independence down
- Wednesday TV ratings: One Chicago mixed, Kung Fu down (November 9)
- Tuesday TV ratings: The Resident and Monarch down (November 8)
- Monday TV ratings: All American down, Quantum Leap up (Nov. 7)
- Weekend live TV ratings: Fire Country and FBI mixed
Meanwhile, Good Girls dipped back down by 14% and 3% respectively. While there are the Netflix ratings to consider, I also think that the two shows are going to be safe, mostly because pilots aren’t filming right now. TV shows have stopped production and unscripted shows that would usually film now have been postponed.
For the rest of the shows, the metrics had some positive takes. While Little Big Shots was down 15% in the audience, it was up 2.5% in the demo. Despite the 6% drop in the audience in the second hour of NCIS: New Orleans, the first hour was up 12% in the audience and 13% in the demo. The demo also remained steady in the second hour.
Despite the downward tick for Little Big Shots, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist ticked up in both metrics. I hope that this is a sign the show just needed a bit of extra promotion and support because it’s a show certainly worth being on the air.
The Rookie heald steady following mixed results from American Idol, furthering the suggestion that the Sunday night move was good. It’s also a sign that these more dramatic episodes are the ones that fans like to see.
CBS also had a good night with God Friended Me jumping up 25% in the demo and 2% in the total audience. I do feel like this show was safe anyway, and these ratings continue to suggest there will be a third season of the feel-good drama.
FOX also had a stronger night than it’s had in a while. The Simpsons‘ upward tick in both metrics was a sign for the night. Duncanville, Bob’s Burgers, and Family Guy all ticked up. The only show I’d be worried about right now is Duncanville, but due to current TV shutdowns, like Good Girls and The Wall, it’s likely safe.
