Wednesday TV ratings: Upward trends continue for the majority of shows
If there’s one good thing to take away from more people staying home, it’s the TV ratings. Once again, most shows see an uptick in the live metrics.
While there’s a lot of bad in the world right now, sometimes we need to see some good news. And when it comes to the live TV ratings, there’s a lot of good news. The metrics ticked up for the majority of TV shows on Mar. 18.
Broadcast networks are certainly benefitting from more people staying home. The TV shows are seeing upward ticks in the demo and audience, with most of them in the double digits. In fact, Mar. 18 saw just one downward tick. SWAT lost 2% of its total audience, but its demo ticked up by 5%.
More from Ratings
- Thursday TV ratings: Grey’s Anatomy up, Walker Independence down
- Wednesday TV ratings: One Chicago mixed, Kung Fu down (November 9)
- Tuesday TV ratings: The Resident and Monarch down (November 8)
- Monday TV ratings: All American down, Quantum Leap up (Nov. 7)
- Weekend live TV ratings: Fire Country and FBI mixed
All other shows were up. The Masked Singer won the demo with a 2.2 ratings, up 15% from the previous episode. Chicago Med and Chicago Fire won the demo in scripted shows with a 1.3 rating—Med up by 23% and Fire up by 18%.
Med also won the audience overall, with 9.12 million tuning in. That was a 9.6% increase.
SEAL Team saw an almost 20% increase in the demo, while LEGO Masters was up 16% in the demo and 12% in the total audience. American Housewife was steady in the audience and up 20% in the demo, debuting on its new night, and Stumptown was up 28% in the demo and 16% in the audience.
I get a sense that these are the types of upward ticks we’re going to see for the rest of the week. It’s telling linear networks that people are interested in the scripted shows but don’t want to watch live. They don’t want to be stuck to a strict schedule and would prefer to stream when they have the time.
It could change the entire way scripted shows are done and released. We could see more shows with lower live ratings get through more seasons because of the success on streaming services. Could this be the move that makes linear networks work with the streamers more and listen to viewers?
As more people stay home, it’s going to be interesting to see how the TV ratings will change in the coming weeks. President Trump says that the current situation is going to continue into the summer, so will we see upticks or downward ticks in the ratings from next week?
Here’s a look at the TV ratings for Mar. 18.
