After Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist‘s sixth episode ended with Max (Skylar Astin) serenading Zoey (Jane Levy), it’s only natural to ask what’s next for the best friends and coworkers. For starters, are they going to stay just friends? If not, who will make the first move and when? Is this going to be an 84-year process like it seems to be for every other tv relationship?

Here’s one possible wrinkle for our nerd-crossed lovers: Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist has made it pretty clear from the start that Zoey’s ability can put her in an awkward position with pretty much everyone around her—including Max. It doesn’t matter how long Max has known Zoey, or how close he might think they are, Zoey still knows more about his feelings for her than he knows about her feelings for him.
