Feeling under the weather? Quarantined? We recommend these five TV doctors to help cure what ails you—if only they were real.

Most of the time, TV doctors are not the people we want to see when we’re sick because nothing is less reassuring than watching how messy doctors’ lives are on medical dramas. There are, however, a few who go above and beyond for their patients; and that’s exactly what we need when we’re feeling sick.

Consulting with your real doctor is, of course, the first recommendation for handling any illness, from the most run-of-the-mill cold or stomach bug to something more severe like COVID-19. Once that is done, or even while you’re waiting to get an appointment, you have to pass the time somehow; and spending some quality hours with your television is always a great way to do just that.

And so, in an attempt to provide a little bit of an escape and some great entertainment, all while keeping the good medical mojo going, we’ve compiled a list of five TV doctors to consult with on your next sick day. This is intended purely for entertainment purposes and doesn’t provide any true medical advice whatsoever; but depending on what you wind up watching, you still might pick up on some knowledge.

When compiling this list of TV doctors for you, we tried our best to think about what kinds of qualities we’d like to see in the medical professionals we visit. Some seem to care more than the average doc and are always more concerned with how they can help than their own well-being. Others have the ability to handle the most bizarre diseases known to man, as well as those as-yet-unknown, and can therefore be your best fictional go-to when trying to handle something new and scary.

Then, there are those TV doctors who, when faced with crazy obstacles, still manage to get the job done. When it comes to TV doctors, while we’ve only listed five, we’d like to think we have something for everyone here. Since there is already plenty of promotion for currently-running series, we’ve tried to mix in more classics than contemporaries—with a couple of key exceptions.

With all of that being said, this list is by no means exhaustive—but at least it’s a start. Now, without further ado, here are the five TV doctors we recommend for you.
