The latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy was full of backstory and shocking developments. Here are the three biggest plot twists from Season 16, Episode 19.

Spoiler alert: The following contains details from Grey’s Anatomy Season 16, Episode 19.

If you’re a fan of the current TGIT line-up on ABC like myself, then you’re probably still recovering from an emotional night of storytelling. While Station 19 and A Million Little Things were devastating in their own right, Grey’s Anatomy covered love and loss through a standalone episode featuring four pivotal characters. With that said, here are the three biggest plot twists from “Love of My Life.”

Did Maggie find the love of her life?

More from ABC

Dr. Pierce walked into the LA Surgical Innovation Conference not expecting to sleep with a blast from the past, but that’s exactly what she did. After locking eyes with Winston, a former resident from Maggie’s time as an attending in Boston, the two quickly transitioned from their awkward pleasantries to locking lips.

Okay, so there was a bit of reconnecting and learning about each other in between, but the chemistry was undeniable from the start. After a steamy night together in a hotel room, Maggie questioned her new feelings, and Winston made it clear he wants to be wherever she is.

After the Jackson debacle, I am completely on board with Maggie spending happily ever after with Winston. Obviously we still have a lot to learn about the charmer, and Maggie has new drama to deal with, but I’m confident this isn’t the last we’ve seen of them together.

Teddy’s secret lover

After all these years, we now know why the name “Allison” is so important to Teddy Altman. While visiting a bar at the conference, Teddy bumped into a former roommate named Claire. First, we found out that Claire once dated Allison (Sherri Saum), Teddy’s friend who died on 9/11. However, we also learned that Teddy and Allison were more than just friends and roommates.

Plot twist! They were in love with each other despite Allison being in an established relationship with Claire. In fact, Allison’s phone records showed her last attempted call was to Teddy when the Twin Towers came crashing down, thus proving who she really loved.

We’re 16 seasons into Grey’s Anatomy, and you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who saw that coming. Not only did we truly learn why Teddy named her daughter Allison, but she was able to gain insight into her current love triangle with Owen and Tom.

Richard’s declining health

We knew Richard’s health was taking a turn, but I don’t think anyone was prepared for what went down at the end of Episode 19. After all, the first act of the episode led us to believe that Richard and Catherine made amends and were back to laughing at their own pettiness. The joke was truly on us.

After spending most of the episode believing that Catherine was in Richard’s hotel room, we found out that it was all in his head. This resulted in his televised presentation on his PATH pen taking a major turn toward disaster. Richard went off-script and began telling the world how he was going to cure cancer.

Maggie, Teddy, and Cormac Hayes knew something was terribly wrong, while Meredith, Bailey Jackson, and Catherine watched the train wreck unfold from Seattle. To make matters worse, Richard didn’t even recognize Maggie before he was carted off on a gurney. It was devastating.

We still don’t exactly know what’s going on with Richard’s health, but it looks to be the primary focus of the next episode on April 2. Expect an all-hands-on-deck situation as Meredith and the rest of Grey Sloan’s finest docs try to save Richard’s life.
