Uncorked on Netflix: An entertaining and compelling family drama of legacy versus passion
Uncorked is Netflix’s latest film release, and it’s a must-watch! Make this your next movie.
Following your dreams can be a hassle, especially if your parents have other ideas for your future. Uncorked tackles the demands of following in your father footsteps of taking over the family business versus doing what you are passionate about. Uncorked highlights the importance of working twice as hard at something not everyone around you understands or respects.
Uncorked follows the journey of a young man named Elijah, played by Mamoudou Athie, who is trying to balance family obligation and individual aspiration. Elijah wants to become a Master Sommelier, but his father Louis (Courtney B. Vance) wants him to help run the family barbecue business that has been theirs for generations.
With the support of his mother Sylvia (Niecy Nash), family, and new girlfriend Tanya (Sasha Compère), Elijah struggles with the demands of sommelier school while his father wrestles with his son’s rejection of running the family business.
The character of Elijah was relatable to this generation and hopefully can be inspiring to those who watch and are experiencing similar struggles finding their path. Niecy Nash and Courtney B. Vance, as Elijah’s mother and father, display some truly heartfelt performances while still providing authentic comedic elements to the film.

It is refreshing to see a unique story not often told about the wine industry through a black perspective and the struggles of a father and sons relationship. Uncorked is a great story about how even though our parents may raise us, they must allow us to follow our path. Uncorked is a must-see! Just make sure you have a good glass of wine by your side while streaming.
