When Calls the Heart proves Jack Thornton will never be forgotten

Fans of When Calls the Heart never want Jack Thornton to be forgotten. Fortunately, the series continues to pay him tribute.

When When Calls the Heart’s Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) died in the line of duty two years ago, fans were devastated. Many weren’t sure they could continue watching the series, but as time went on, most have found pleasure in their favorite show again. But they are united on one front: they don’t want Jack Thornton to ever be forgotten.

When Calls the Heart‘s most recent episode, “In Perfect Unity,” Clara Stanton (Eva Bourne) is struggling with the idea of her upcoming marriage to Jesse Flynn (Aren Buchholz), scared she is going to lose him like she did her first husband. She shared her fears with Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow) who revealed that even if she knew how things would end with Jack, she still would have married him.

The touching scene is just one tribute to the husband she lost in a mudslide in Season 5. The beginning of the episode gives us a brief glimpse of her wedding photo with Jack, and in a discussion with the town’s new pastor, she tells him her deceased husband built the school/church. Then the camera pans to the plaque the children of Hope Valley created for Elizabeth that proclaims the school as “The Jack Thornton School.”

Fans will never forget Constable Jack Thornton as for the five seasons, his romance with Elizabeth Thatcher lit up the screen. Viewers tuned in each week to see how the couple’s love story would progress. Though the series will never be the same without him, the stories have moved on. Elizabeth will eventually move on, but it’s nice to know that When Calls the Heart will always remember the first man who stole Elizabeth’s heart.
