As you all know, today is April Fool’s Day. In honor of April Fool’s Day, we decided to take a look back at Big Brother history and pick one twist we wish was an April Fool’s joke.

As everyone knows, today is April Fool’s Day. Big Brother has had its share of good and bad twists over the years. Unfortunately for viewers, none of the bad twists were April Fool’s jokes. There is one twist above all, however, that we wish was an April Fool’s joke.

Our criteria for picking this twist was simple: it just stunk really badly to the point where fans hated it. It would have to be a twist that absolutely nobody wants to see return again. The one twist we wish was an April Fool’s joke is the Battle of the Block.

How the Battle of the Block worked on Big Brother

The idea behind the Battle of the Block twist was to eliminate floaters. It sounded like a good idea in theory. In practice, it ended up being pretty messy.

For the Battle of the Block, two people would win Head of Household. Head of Household 1 would nominate 2 people for eviction. Head of Household 2 would also nominate 2 people for eviction. Then the 2 groups of nominees would face off against each other. If Head of Household 1’s nominees won the competition, Head of Household 1 would be dethroned and the 2 nominees would be safe for the week. Head of Household 2 would be the sole Head of Household for the rest of the week.

This twist was an absolute disaster. Fans hated it from the get-go, likely for three reasons. The twist was designed to eliminate floaters, but it only created more. Nobody wanted to make bold moves, risk being nominated, and be thrown into the battle of the block. Another reason was it took away the key wheel, which super fans love and wish would be brought back.

Then, even after fans universally hated the twist, they had the audacity to bring it back for Big Brother 17 and call it a fan favorite. Oy vey. We wish this twist was an April Fool’s joke. Unfortunately, it is not.
