Big Brother: 5 best seasons to rewatch on CBS All Access
There have been some terrific seasons of Big Brother US and also some horrendous flops. We decided to take a quick look at some of the best seasons in Big Brother history — some that you should watch on CBS All Access during COVID-19 quarantine.
The Big Brother game has changed so dramatically over the course of its history in terms of actual gameplay, changes to the rulebook, and far-fetched twists.
The 21 seasons of Big Brother, the single Over the Top season, and the two installments of Celebrity Big Brother have produced some insane moments that need to be reflected upon. Mike ‘Boogie’ Malin, Dan Gheesling, Will Kirby, Janelle Pierzina — they all became legends at the game and provided us all with laughs, jaw-dropping decisions, and bombs.
The main motto that Big Brother has taught fans and has maintained every season:
Expect the unexpected.
Let’s take a look at the most unexpected.
Big Brother 2
The first primetime appearance of the bromance of Dr. Will Kirby and Mike ‘Boogie’ Malin took center stage on Big Brother 2. We have not seen a better duo in the history of Big Brother to this date and we likely never will again.
Production was still trying to figure out what worked and what did not at this point in time and was still able to put on an absolutely terrific show. This season will go down in history.
Dr. Will Kirby won the season despite his running mate being evicted early on in the season, but Boogie still got his revenge by winning the next season we will be discussing.
Big Brother 7: All-Stars
In my opinion, this is the best season in Big Brother history for obvious reasons. Hands down. Big Brother put together the best of the best up to that point and made excellent casting decisions. Ultimately Mike ‘Boogie’ Malin prevailed as the winner, but the bromance with Will Kirby, the fierce competitive gene of Janelle Pierzina, and the solid gameplay of Erika Landin marked the Big Brother All-Stars season.
It produced some never-before-seen strategy and set the bar for the seasons after it.
Big Brother 12
Hayden Moss won this complicated season of Big Brother that was full of twists and turns, showmances, and one of the best alliances the game has ever seen.
‘The Brigade’, featuring winner Hayden Moss, Enzo Palumbo, Lane Elenburg, and Matt Hoffman goes down in history. The alliance completed an almost unprecedented feat — getting all members to the ‘Final ____’. The alliance ultimately decided to send Matt Hoffman packing after the house discovered that Hoffman had been lying about his wife having cancer. Sheesh.
Lane Elenburg found love in fan favorite Britney Haynes, but ultimately hung her out to dry for The Brigade and $50,000. Hayden Moss had his own dealings with Kristen Bitting despite having a girlfriend back home. The most notorious showmance of them all, though, was that of Rachel Reilly and Brendon Villegas. If the pair would not have been in such a competitive season, they likely would have been able to walk to the finale night, hand-in-hand.
Big Brother 14
Big Brother 14 featured the right combination of returning houseguests and new houseguests. Surprisingly, a returning houseguest did not win, giving way to a new legend in Ian Terry.
The season featured the fantastic gameplay of former winners Mike ‘Boogie’ Malin and Dan Gheesling, Britney Haynes, and Janelle Pierzina.
The season may have been about the returners, but it became all about Ian Terry in short order after he single-handedly evicted Mike ‘Boogie’ Malin. Frank Eudy also made his first appearance on Big Brother in BB14 as the man Boogie took under his wing.
Big Brother 16
This is easily the best season within the past few, in my opinion. Derrick Levasseur, Cody Calafiore, Caleb Reynolds, Frankie Grande, Nicole Franzel, and Donny Thompson all made their name in this season.
Levasseur was the undoubted winner as one of the best players in the history. Cody Calafiore made the deep run with Derrick to the finals. Caleb, better know as ‘Beast Mode Cowboy’, made his mark on the season. The brother of Ariana Grande, Frankie Grande, put his mark on the show as well by being lovable throughout his bromance with Zach Rance. Nicole’s personality granted her another opportunity years later, which she took with stride. Donny became a fan favorite.
The gameplay in this season was simply fantastic.
