5 biggest questions from the Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 finale
When did Richard have hip replacement surgery? Who will Teddy marry? Here are the five biggest questions coming out of the Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 finale.
Spoiler alert: This post contains spoilers from the Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 finale.
Even though Grey’s Anatomy was forced to conclude Season 16 earlier than expected, Episode 21 served as a decent wrap-up for the major storylines in motion. A diagnosis was found for Richard. Amelia successfully gave birth. Teddy’s wedding (almost) happened. But we still have plenty of questions going into the next season.

When did Richard have a hip replacement?
Many Grey’s fans were puzzled when it was revealed that Richard had a hip replacement in Boston three years ago. Come again? As far as I can remember, Dr. Webber hasn’t had a medical issue since recovering from electrocution in Season 10.
Showrunner Krista Vernoff noted on Twitter that this surgery occurred “in between seasons.” While that’s not out of the realm of possibility, this was clearly a sudden development since it hadn’t been mentioned before.
Nevertheless, this hip replacement was the cause of his mystery health problems this season. The cobalt that was used rotted and was poisoning his entire body! Luckily, DeLuca made the catch before Bailey did a biopsy on his leg.
Now that Richard is (hopefully) on the mend, he’s back to square one with Catherine. She may have been by his side during his poisoning, but he hasn’t forgotten the way she treated him in the year prior. Will Richard and Catherine’s marriage survive in Season 17?
