6. Looper

Original Release Date: September 28, 2012

Box Office Earnings: Looper was filmed with an estimated budget of $30,000,000. On opening weekend in the USA, the film earned $20,801,552 and earned a gross of $66,486,205 in the USA. Looper‘s cumulative worldwide gross was $176,506,819.

Critical Acclaim: Looper was nominated in 2013 for four USA Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films awards and was the winner of the ASCAP Film and Television Music Award for Top Box Office Films. Looper was also rated 93% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

About the Role: The year is 2074 and assassinations have become a little more scientifically sophisticated. When the mob wants someone to “disappear,” they send them into a time loop to the past, where Joe (Gordon-Levitt), a hired gunman, is waiting to take them out. But the business arrangement gets turned on its head when Joe is sent his next target: his future self (Bruce Willis).

Simply the Best: Also starring Emily Blunt, this really is a film with an all-star cast. And there’s nothing better than watching our beloved Gordon-Levitt and action idol Bruce Willis go head-to-head in a fight. This is also one of Gordon-Levitt’s more unique roles in that viewers may not recognize him right away, with colored contacts and a change in facial structure. Gordon-Levitt also abandons his traditional boyish charm in this role as he has to mirror the personality of a younger Bruce Willis. It’s an impressive feat and a favorite in our list of Joseph Gordon-Levitt movies.
