We know that Chicago Fire Season 9 is definitely happening. The question many fans have is when that season will premiere on NBC.

With the way our favorite TV shows are ending this year, getting a renewal is more important than ever. The good news for Chicago Fire fans is that NBC confirmed the renewal before the production had to shut down due to the coronavirus. Chicago Fire Season 9 is definitely happening, but when will it premiere on NBC?

We’re not just getting a ninth season. When the show was renewed, NBC gave us two seasons on top of that. We’re definitely getting up to Chicago Fire Season 11, and we’ll have to see from there. NBC didn’t say the show would end with that season, but the three-season renewal may have been with that caveat behind the scenes.

Either way, we’re getting a ninth season. The big question is when it will premiere.

More from NBC

Usually, I’d say the last week of September or around then. There’s no way NBC would move this series out of the fall lineup, and One Chicago Wednesdays seems to be working extremely well. There’s no need for the network to change something good.

This isn’t a normal year, though. Productions can’t start back up just yet. Chicago Fire usually starts filming in the summer, but there’s no guarantee that can happen just yet. The writers will be able to meet virtually to get work done, but pre-production, location scouting, and more won’t be able to happen until the stay-at-home orders are lifted; until it’s safe for groups of people to gather again.

We could see the premiere pushed back. Firehouse 51 isn’t going to be the only team delayed. We’ll see the entire One Chicago lineup affected, as well as every single TV show out there. We could see that this changes the way primetime TV works in the future, but that’s for another speculation piece.

We’ll keep you up to date with the latest happenings. As soon as we know when filming starts, we can get a rough idea as to when the premiere can happen.
