Can Tony change his attitude and start helping those around him? Find out in After Life Season 2 starring Ricky Gervais, now streaming on Netflix.

If you lost the love of your life unexpectedly, how would you react? What would you do? That’s the question that Tony, played by Ricky Gervais, tries to answer in After Life. After struggling to live with pain and grief in the first season, Tony will attempt to become a better person to those around him in After Life Season 2, which is now streaming on Netflix.

In After Life Season 1, we meet Tony, a journalist who works for the local newspaper, Tambury Gazette. Tony is grumpy, negative, and brutally honest to those around him. This pessimistic attitude stems from the fact that Tony tragically lost his wife, Lisa (Ashley Jensen), to cancer. Instead of committing suicide, Tony decides to punish the world by saying and doing what he wants, which he calls his “superpower.”

Towards the end of the first season, Tony started to have a new outlook on life thanks to his chance encounter with Anne (Penelope Wilton), a widow that Tony meets in a graveyard. Anne gave Tony advice on how he should not give up on life and to look at things in a positive way.

That meeting changed Tony’s perspective and he started to recognize those who never gave up on him. He even asked Emma (Ashley Jensen), a nurse who works for Tony’s dad, out on a date.

In After Life Season 2, Tony will continue to try and think positively while attempting to become a better friend to those around him. Season 2 will center around the town’s local amateur dramatic show and how each character will deal with the looming threat that their newspaper will shut down.

Ricky Gervais is the creator, writer, and director of After Life. Gervais is best known for co-creating the BBC version of The Office, where he also served as a co-writer and co-director.
