5. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Original Release Date: October 17, 2003

Box Office: Despite not doing well with critics, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre made $107.3 million at the box office and came in at the number one spot during its debut weekend. It was made on a budget of $9.5 million.

Critical Acclaim: Critics weren’t crazy about the 2003 remake. Many felt that it was a cheap effort that prioritized gore over genuine scares, unlike the original film. While some did appreciate its stylish flair and gritty cinematography, most critics agreed that it fell short of expectations. Audiences weren’t super impressed either.

About the Role: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was Biel’s first top-billing role and she played the starring character, Erin Hardesty, based on Sally Hardesty from the original film.

Biel was nominated for Best Actress at the 2004 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards and Best Female Breakthrough Performance at the 2004 MTV Movie & TV Awards.

Simply the Best: Erin was the film’s “final girl” and Biel makes for an excellent scream queen. It’s a shame she hasn’t done a lot of horror movies. A lot of people believe Biel wanted this role to shake-up her “good girl” image from her years on 7th Heaven.

Indeed her character in this is considered much “sexier.” She spends the whole movie in a tight white tank top that is tied up to show off her midriff. However, in a nice change of pace, there isn’t actually any nudity and Biel does get to do a lot of action and stunts in this film.
