Will Last Man Standing Season 9 happen on FOX?

The FOX Series Last Man Standing has been long-lasting, but will audiences get to see more of Mike Baxter?

Last Man Standing Season 8 was affected modestly from the COVID-19 production shutdowns in terms of being able to air its entire slate of episodes. Instead of 22 episodes, the season finished with 21 instead, and the “finale” aired on April 30.

The series left viewers on a mild cliffhanger as the eldest daughter of Mike Baxter (Tim Allen), Kristin (Amanda Fuller), gave birth to her second child; however, the health of the baby and mother was not shown.

Now with production questions stemming across the entertainment industry due to COVID-19 induced hiatuses, this begs the question, will there be a ninth season? There is no clear indication right now on whether a potential Season 9 has gotten the green light, and it may not come just yet due to the scheduling of filming still undecided for many series.

Based on the reputation of the show and the fact that there are 173 total episodes spanning since 2011, the series will hopefully not get canceled again. Season 8 episodes were still gaining anywhere from 3.5-5 million viewers according to TV Series Finale, so it’s safe to assume fans still enjoy the presence of Mike Baxter after all these years.

This holds especially true after the series ended on ABC in Spring 2017 after a six-year run only to return once again on a different channel (FOX) roughly 1.5 years later in fall 2018. With Seasons 7 and 8 on FOX, there is hope the story of Mike, Vanessa (Nancy Travis), Kristin, Mandy (Molly McCook), Kyle (Christoph Sanders), Ed (Hector Elizondo), and the rest of the Last Man Standing characters continues in a Season 9 and maybe even beyond. It would truly be remarkable to see this show run for a decade.
