Arrow spin-off, Green Arrow and the Canaries, has not yet been picked up for series but there’s still chance.

Set to star Katie Cassidy, Katherine McNamara, and Juliana Harkavay, Green Arrow and the Canaries got its start with a backdoor pilot on Arrow in January 2020. The episode scored high ratings and fans were pretty confident the new series would be picked up by the CW, but so far, that hasn’t happened.

Katie Cassidy told TVLine that she was pretty confident the show would go to series even though she hadn’t heard an official word. But as the weeks pass and more shows are ordered to series, like Kung Fu and Walker, and scheduled for the coming season, there’s an air of uncertainty hanging over the show which could spell bad news for the canaries.

But CW’s network president Mark Pedowitz told reporters that the show is “still very much alive.”  He added that discussions were still ongoing in regards to the series. While this is good news for fans looking forward to following the Black Siren, the Black Canary, and the new Green Arrow, it also means that a potential series is, most likely, really far down the road.

With most of the CW’s superhero shows set to return in 2021, there isn’t a lot of room on the schedule for yet another new series this season. So it’s possible the CW is holding a space for Green Arrow and the Canaries on its 2021-2022 schedule as some shows could be canceled or ending in the 2020-2021 season.

Though this show wasn’t ordered to series yet, there is hope, considering it hasn’t been passed over and that discussions continue. In the meantime, there are several DC shows to look forward to in 2021 with the debut of the Supergirl spinoff Superman & Lois in January and new seasons of The Flash, Batwoman, and Black Lightning.
