CBS fall 2020 schedule: SWAT held to midseason, little change elsewhere

"Hoax" - A fake 911 call puts Hondo (Shemar Moore) and the SWAT team on the hunt to stop a white supremacy group from executing bombing attacks on local communities. Also, Street's (Alex Russell) relationship with his recently paroled mother, Karen (Sherilyn Fenn), jeopardizes his career, and Jessica (Stephanie Sigman) is thrown a curveball by her colleague, Michael Plank (Peter Facinelli), president of the police commission. Obba Babatund retuns as Hondo's father, Daniel Harrelson, Sr. on S.W.A.T., Thursday, May 17 (10:00-11:00 PM ET) on the CBS Television Network. Pictured: Shemar Moore as Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson. Very little is changing in the fall for CBS with hope that shows can film in the summer. Here’s a look at the CBS fall 2020 schedule.

While other networks are making plans for filming not returning until late summer or early fall, CBS is hoping filming will pick up in July 2020. There’s little change to the CBS fall 2020 schedule.

One of the biggest changes is going to be SWAT‘s move. After three seasons as part of the fall lineup, the show is heading to the midseason. This may not be all that surprising considering the low live ratings. Until the filming of pilots had to be put on hold, this was a show on the verge of being canceled despite fans of the show wanting more.

More from CBS

SEAL Team is moving to the 10 p.m. slot, which could put it in danger. We saw during the second season that the later slot wasn’t popular with fans, but hopefully more tuning in through the streaming platform CBS All Access will prevent too much danger. The show will follow two unscripted shows, Survivor and The Amazing Race.

NCIS: New Orleans is sticking to Sunday nights following its sibling show NCIS: LA. Both shows will follow the new series, The Equalizer. Since New Orleans is remaining on Sundays, it should be surprising to hear FBI: Most Wanted is getting a fall premiere date. Nor should it be surprising to hear that NCIS and FBI will remain on Tuesday nights in their usual spots.

MacGyver is moving back to the fall, likely to fill the spot left with Hawaii Five-0 coming to an end during the 2019-2020 season.

Of course, all of this is only tentative. If shows can’t return to filming in July and early August, CBS is going to have to rethink a few plans. However, if the shows can return to filming early, this is going to be the perfect move for the network while all other networks opt for spring and summer shows or acquisitions in the fall.
