If Bob’s Burgers was a real restaurant in a pandemic, would it survive?

It’s hard to believe we’re living through history right now. While pandemics have swept the world before, it doesn’t feel real until you’re in it. It’s been incredibly hard but in particular, it’s been hard for small businesses. A lot of small businesses have begun to fold or had to lay off a significant number of their staff. In the fictional world though, it’s interesting to think how Bob’s Burgers would be dealing with a pandemic.

According to Loren Bouchard, there will be some quarantine episodes. Does that mean there will be a pandemic going on in their town? If Bouchard decides to go that route, it would be something totally different for the series. Even if he doesn’t, a question still remains.

If the Belchers had to deal with a pandemic, would Bob’s Burgers survive? There is no concrete answer but let’s get into what could happen.

How would the Belchers keep Bob’s Burgers afloat during a pandemic?

No doubt regulations would be similar to the ones we’re dealing with now. Obviously, there would be no dine-in options. Rather, everything would either have to be a carry-out order or delivery. That’s where the kids would come in handy as Gene could hand the food out the door while wearing the burger suit or Bob would stand him outside. If they wanted to go the delivery route, the kids could ride their bikes to deliver the food. It might be a little cold, but that’s just the experience.

As for them having to lay off employees, it wouldn’t be necessary. Bob and Linda are barely making enough as it is. With the kids are their only employees, it wouldn’t happen. Rather, it would be more pressure on Bob and Linda to attract customers. Considering Bob’s Burgers already isn’t raking in the cash, the family would be even more strapped. However, there a few ways they could keep afloat.

As mentioned above, they could do no-contact carry-out orders along with delivery. Another way to stay afloat would be promotions. A lot of restaurants are offering some kind of deal as a way to get customers to buy. For Bob, it could be something like buy one burger, get the other one half off or buy a burger, get free fries. While it might not seem like much, it would be better than anything Jimmy Pesto is offering.

While the Belchers could do any number of things, it could all be a moot point. As good as Bob’s Burgers is, the restaurant could end up shutting down. It’s a sad reality a lot of small business owners have had to face. Even if they don’t shut down, they could end up in severe debt, trying to pay their bills. Either way, things would end up looking bleak before the Belchers were able to get back on their feet. Considering how small their town is though, they might get a decent wave of support.

Even if the restaurant did shut down, the Belchers could still have a back-up plan. For Bob, he could end up taking over Big Bob’s restaurant. Linda could get another part-time job to help and things would be alright. Considering the multiple times the restaurant has been shut down in the past though, the pandemic probably wouldn’t make as large of an impact.

While Bob’s Burgers is a fictional restaurant, it’s still neat to try to figure out if the Belcher family could make it in the real world. Let’s be real here, the person who would take it hardest would be Teddy. No doubt he’d be calling in order upon order for takeout.

At least, they would have one loyal customer. Would the Belchers make it during a pandemic? It’s tough to say but considering how strong a family they are, I think everything would work out in the end.
