The Resident Season 4 is officially happening but when will it premiere?

We know that The Resident Season 4 is definitely happening. Now everyone wants to know when our favorite doctors and nurses from Chastain will be back on our screens.

It’s not going to be for a while. As you’ll remember, COVID-19 meant that shows had to shutdown production. The Resident was one of those shows. Production remains halted while lockdowns around the country continue.

Because of this, FOX has put a fall plan together that doesn’t rely on scripted shows that may not be able to film until late summer or early fall. The fall 2020 schedule involves animated shows that haven’t been affected and scripted programs that have already finished filming. The Resident Season 4 isn’t on the list.

Waiting until January 2021 for The Resident’s return

The regular fall programming is likely to pick up in January 2021. The CW is one network with a plan for January 2021 set. Other networks haven’t confirmed what they’re doing, but we can suspect that FOX will have something similar in mind. January 2021 is likely Plan A for the return of the medical drama.

What night will it air on? This is up for debate. The show began on Mondays and had a great timeslot. Its move to Tuesdays in Season 3 was problematic. FOX has routinely had a problem with shows going up against CBS’s NCIS.

Hopefully, FOX won’t put the show in that timeslot again. Of course, then there’s the question of where it can move to. Mondays will likely be taken up by 9-1-1 again, likely followed by 9-1-1: Lone Star. As the two highest-rated scripted shows, FOX isn’t going to want to change their placements too much.

If not a Tuesday night, FOX really only has Wednesdays and Thursdays open. Wednesdays have been used for unscripted shows, and that will likely remain the same in the 2020-2021 season. Thursdays have mostly been about comedy, although The Resident could take the second hour of the night.

We’ll have to wait and see. It’s something FOX hasn’t considered just yet, but we’ll likely see The Resident Season 4 return in January 2021.
