Downton Abbey gains new fans eager for the sequel to the 2019 movie
Downton Abbey is finding even more traction on Amazon Prime
If Julian Fellowes thought fans would be satisfied with just one movie continuation of the hit Downton Abbey series, he’s being proved wrong. Since the coronavirus has allowed viewers to spend a lot more time in front of their TVs and laptops, the views for the series, which is available on Amazon Prime, has increased and so has the discussion about the next movie.
In fact, fans are asking for a three-hour Gone With the Wind epic so they can spend even more time with the Crawleys.
The 2019 sequel was a smash hit, earning $194 million dollars at the box office and immediately spawning demands for another movie. The good news is that most cast members are already on board for a return to the Yorkshire countryside, and producer Gareth Neame has already confirmed that a sequel is in the pipeline.

The challenge is getting everyone back together for filming with their schedules and the limitations caused by COVID-19.
At the moment, Julian Fellowes, the creator of Downton Abbey, is at work on his next series, The Gilded Age, which will debut on HBO in the future.
Fellowes said that he has to finish the scripts for this series first and asked fans to be patient. New fans just now discovering the beauty of a series that captivated millions are already gearing up for the sequel.
Downton Abbey is still a major draw to dedicated fans
Viewers who don’t have access to Amazon Prime are getting opportunities to view the British drama for the final time on PBS before the rights expire at the end of June. Several stations are also making all six seasons available for marathon viewing. Many fans are bingeing the series yet again, finding comfort in the past with such an uncertain future.
Though there isn’t a set timeline for the sequel to the movie, fans can rest assured that, with the success of the first movie, a second one is almost guaranteed.
As Hugh Bonneville, who portrays the Earl of Grantham said in an interview, the franchise could be like Star Wars and offer many more movies, “how many movies were there of Star Wars? This could run and run.” That’s good news for new and dedicated viewers.
