Will Songland Season 2 continue tonight, Monday June 22?

Over the last 10 weeks, we’ve had the chance to see unknown songwriters craft music for their favorite artists. And there have been some major names needing songs this season. Will this continue with new Songland Season 2 tonight, Monday, June 22?

Unfortunately, there is some bad news. There won’t be a new episode of the series tonight. There won’t be an episode of the series on at all.

The previous episode with Usher was the Songland Season 2 finale. He picked one new song to record. Throughout the weeks, we’ve seen the likes of Julia Michaels, Bebe Rexha, Florida Georgia Line, and Luis Fonda.

It has been an excellent season, but instead of an episode, NBC is planning an episode of Dateline.

Will there be a third season of Songland?

Now there are questions about the future of the show. NBC is yet to decide on the fates of its spring shows, including this one.

There is certainly a place for a show like this. Rather than bringing us the next artist, the show focuses on bringing the next songwriter. And there are plenty of singers out there who need material written for them. Or they need someone to help collaborate on a new track, and as Bebe Rexha’s episode proved, collaboration isn’t a bad thing. In fact, the entire show proves that considering these unknown songwriters work with some of the best to craft excellent songs.

One of the factors in NBC’s decision is going to be the ratings, though. How did the live ratings fare for the series? It started off great, with a 0.84 demo and 4.5 million viewers. However, the show lost its demo and audience throughout the season.

That being said, it sits at the halfway point of all NBC spring shows in terms of average performance. Since this would likely cost less than a scripted show, there’s a strong chance of renewal.
