Reluctant Royals could be a more adult version of royal romances Netflix loves.

The last series to make the list is Reluctant Royals by Alyssa Cole. Netflix has proven they like using royalty in their TV shows and movies. Unlike the previous entry though, Reluctant Royals would be firmly in the adult realm.

Of all the series on the list, it would be reminiscent of The Wedding Date series than the Royals series. If Netflix decided to adapt it, it would no doubt be beloved by many.

The Reluctant Royals series by Alyssa Cole is comprised of three full-length novels and two novellas. The first book follows Naledi’s romance with Thabiso in which Naledi gets a lot more than she bargained for from a simple email.

The second book follows Naledi’s best friend, Portia as she becomes an apprentice and finds love in Scotland while the third book follows Naledi’s cousin faking her way to love with a rakish prince. As for the two novellas, the first follows Thabiso’s assistant who gets a second chance at love with her Tinder date while the second follows Portia’s sister, Regina and the romance she has with a voice she can’t stop thinking about.

What makes this series different from other romance series is Alyssa Cole doesn’t just focus on the romance. All of the characters have other things going on and it makes the story more grounded in reality.

Additionally, each book focuses on couples of different ages, races, and social standings. In the end, everyone finds love and it’s beautiful. Personally, I think the series would be better as movies but Netflix could turn them into TV shows, too.
