Where to watch Back to the Future on its 35th anniversary
By Dan Girolamo
On its 35th anniversary, here’s where you can watch Back to the Future.
On July 3, 1985, a sci-fi film called Back to the Future premiered in theaters. Thirty-five years later, it’s one of the most revered films of the last 50 years.
Back to the Future tells the story of Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), a teenager in 1985 who accidentally goes to the year 1955 in a time-traveling DeLorean. Marty coincidentally meets his parents and his mother begins to fall for him, which negatively affects his future. Marty must team up with Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) to make his parents fall in love and travel back to 1985 before it’s too late.
More from Netflix
- Bridgerton season 3: All the details to know about Penelope and Colin’s love story
- It’s a slow week on Netflix with only three new releases (Nov. 20)
- Exploding Kittens: From card game to Netflix animated series starring Tom Ellis
- The Crown and more Netflix shows and movies to stream this week (November 13)
- Escaping Twin Flames and more harrowing love-centered documentaries to watch on Netflix
I’m sure director Robert Zemeckis believed the film would be a success, but I doubt he thought it would become one of the most important films ever made. This sci-fi classic was the highest-grossing film of 1985. It won the Academy Award for Best Sound Effects Editing and turned Fox into one of the biggest stars of the 1980s.
Where to stream Back to the Future
To celebrate the 35th anniversary, many fans are probably wondering where they can watch this beloved film. Currently, Back to the Future is available to stream on Netflix. But wait, there’s more. The film spawned two sequels, Back to the Future Part II and Back to the Future Part III, which are also available to stream on Netflix.
If you do not subscribe to Netflix, there are other ways to watch it. The film can be seen on Showtime or its streaming service, Showtime Anytime. If all else fails, the movie is available to rent on platforms like Amazon, iTunes, and Google Play.
