The Baby-Sitters Club has arrived on Netflix to cure your summer blues

After months of anticipation, the day is finally here. The new reboot of The Baby-Sitters Club on Netflix is finally available to stream. Whether you’re a fan of the original series or might be the “new generation” the show is marketed at, it looks to be a real treat.

All 10 episodes of Season 1 are released on the platform and ready to hopefully make your summer a little bit brighter.

While not the first Baby-Sitters Club series produced, this 2020 reboot looks to take our favorite characters and modernize them. Thankfully, we’re actually getting kids playing kids rather than teens playing kids. Additionally, the series made some fun changes from the original so things might look a little bit different but hopefully, a whole lot better.

Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club follows the same characters but with a twist.

At first, there weren’t many details on the series provided by Netflix. Even now, the description is just vague enough. If you weren’t a fan of the original series, then it gives you just enough info without spoiling anything. “Ann M. Martin’s beloved books get a modern update in this series that follows a group of girlfriends and their homegrown babysitting business.” which is truly all you need to know before deciding to take a chance on the series.

More from Netflix

The series follows Kristy Thomas and her best friends: Mary Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill and Dawn Schaffer as they start the Baby-Sitters Club. While the club was originally created by Kristy, all of the girls work together to make the club a success. Kristy could technically be considered the “main” character, but all of the girls are given a turn in the spotlight.

Unlike the book series though, things are a lot more inclusive in the series. Some of the major changes include changing the races of characters and making things more inclusive. It’s a smart move as The Baby-Sitters Club mostly focused on white characters. However, it’s nice to see Netflix is making those key changes and showing characters of different races and ethnicities rather than focus on how the story was originally written.

Aside from being for fans of the original book series, the major selling point is the cast. Since Kristy started the club, her mom is played by the timeless Alicia Silverstone and her future step-father is played by Mark Feuerstein. As for the main cast of girls, they’re played by Sophie Grace, Malia Baker, Momona Tanada, Shay Rudolph, and Xochitl Gomez. The cast might not be as well-known but, they’re exactly as the characters are described in the books.

If you want Netflix but don’t have it, you can get a 30-day free trial. No doubt most of us have Netflix as it’s basically a household essential. Even so, The Baby-Sitters Club looks like it’s going to be a great summer watch and an absolute delight.
