Midnight Sun could be the chance for Twilight to make it to the small screen

After years of waiting, Twilight fans can rejoice. Stephenie Meyer finally released Midnight Sun which is the first Twilight book but told through Edward’s perspective. While fans were excited, some can see it as cash-grab. No matter which side you fall on, the impact Twilight had on pop culture as a whole can’t be ignored.

Obviously, we all know how huge the Twilight movies were. It made household names of its stars including Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner. However, it’s clear that almost all involved in the film are ready to leave the franchise in the past. Rightfully so as for a time, it felt like Twilight was their identity.

Moving into this new chapter with the Twilight franchise, it would make sense for them to go to the small screen. Remaking the movies would ultimately be pointless. We’ve already watched the movie and fans won’t want a rehashed version. Making Midnight Sun into a TV series would allow for a lot more wiggle room especially if the original stars of the movies weren’t attached.

Midnight Sun would be an excellent TV show with everything Meyer has added.

Midnight Sun is surprisingly completely different from the Twilight book. With everything being in Edward’s perspective, things are surprisingly dark.

Before getting started, there will be spoilers for the Midnight Sun book if you haven’t read yet.

The one major difference is how dark and brutal Edward’s thoughts really are when he first sees Bella. Immediately he can’t stop thinking about killing her and it’s frankly unsettling at times.

While things get lighter from there on, it’s pretty realistic upon the first impression. We all know he didn’t end up going through with it. However, it would be interesting to see how this would play out on the small screen. Along with that, Edward’s mind-reading would be another subject the show would have to tackle. With the rise in vampire TV shows, movies, and books, this could be a solid move for a TV network.

The major reason why Midnight Sun deserves to be adapted is its focus on the rest of the Cullen family. We learned a little bit via Bella but it was nothing like being in Edward’s head. In his head, we learn about all their respective journeys and how they became a coven. In particular, it was interesting to see how Alice’s story played into everything and how her story wove seamlessly into the first book’s plotline.

Obviously, it would be stupid to assume any of the original stars would reprise their roles but with the right cast, it could work. Giving more depth to the Cullens and learning more about them would be something different. It would also probably take away the drama of the original series and shift the focus to the family and their dynamics. If anything, Midnight Sun opened a realm of possibilities.

As for which network would want a Midnight Sun series, it’s not hard to imagine. If they were going for a younger audience, it could end up on Freeform or the CW. The series could even end up on a streaming service such as Netflix. Either way, it could be a nice addition to the Twilight franchise without being over-the-top as the movies were at points.

Currently, there aren’t any rumors or news of a movie or TV show in the works. No doubt rumors will be flying soon enough, though.

Personally, I think a TV adaptation of Midnight Sun could be extremely well-done. It would certainly be a lot different than Twilight so it could appeal to a wider audience. We can only hope that Midnight Sun has its time in the sun.
