With Cody’s plans foiled, who became the first nominees of Big Brother 22?

After last Wednesday’s action-packed season premiere of Big Brother 22, aka Big Brother All-Stars, I was eagerly awaiting Sunday night’s episode to see who would be the first two all-stars nominated for eviction.

Unfortunately for Cody Calafiore, his HOH reign wouldn’t be as cut and dry as he would have liked with his less-than-stellar gameplay and a new Big Brother twist quickly throwing a wrench into his plans. So who were the first all-stars to hit the nomination block? Let’s break it all down.

Warning: This post will contain spoilers from the Sunday, August 9th episode of Big Brother 22. Let’s go!

A big twist shakes up Big Brother 22

Although Cody didn’t want to win the first HOH of the season, he was unwilling to put his fate into someone else’s hands during the first week of the game. However, with great power comes great responsibility, and unfortunately, Cody mishandled that power this week in a major way.

While talking with his fellow Big Brother 16 alum Nicole Franzel in the HOH Room, Cody confirmed that he had his sights set on Janelle and Kaysar, who both played together on Big Brother 6 and 7. With Janelle and Kaysar’s reputations as seasoned veterans of the game and Janelle’s impressive competition record–nine competition wins in a single season– Cody’s plan seemed like a no-brainer. Unfortunately, this plan would get complicated when a new twist entered the game.

As the houseguests mingled, a few days later, Cody came out from the diary room (DR) and called everyone into the living room where he issued each houseguest a VIP Pass to the Safety Suite before explaining how the season’s first twist will work.

For the next three weeks, whenever the countdown clock begins, the all-star houseguests will have the opportunity to visit the Safety Suite and compete in the Safety Suite Competition. The winner of the competition will win themselves and one other person of their choosing safety for the week. The HOH is not eligible to compete, and each of the houseguests may only compete in the competition once.

As the paranoia of potentially being the first person evicted from the all-star game set in, the talk was rampant around the house about whether or not anyone would take the opportunity to compete in the Safety Suite Competition. Janelle and Kaysar, in particular, were worried that they’d be the obvious first targets, and in an attempt to assuage their fears, they decided to individually meet with Cody. Unfortunately, he would do little to reassure either of them that they were safe.

Later that day, as their window of opportunity ticked away, Kaysar and Janelle ultimately decided to swipe their passes, giving them access to the Safety Suite. The summer’s first Safety Suite Competition saw Janelle and Kaysar masquerading as disc jockeys. For the competition, which they competed individually, the two all-stars had to listen to a remixed version of “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and then recreate the melody by pressing a specific sequence of buttons.

Whoever finished the competition in the fastest time would win safety for the week and get to choose someone else to award safety to. Despite not being the competition beast of the dynamic duo, it was Kaysar who would win the first Safety Suite Competition of the summer.

Luckily for Janelle, Kaysar would also award her safety, and unfortunately for Cody, that would mean that he would have to come up with a new plan.

After discussing nominations with Nicole F., Cody settled on nominating Keesha (BB10) and Kevin (BB11), feeling that he hadn’t had the opportunity to make personal connections with either of them. Although Kevin made an impassioned plea to Cody before nominations, it didn’t work, and Kevin found himself on the block next to Keesha, with Keesha being Cody’s primary target. As the episode closed, we got diary room segments from both nominees as Keesha declared that she wasn’t going to let herself be the first boot, and Kevin swore he’d get revenge on Cody next week.
