SEAL Team is bringing the much-loved dog to the forefront when Season 4 debuts

There is little doubt that Cerberus, the bomb-sniffing dog attached to Seal Team 6, is as much a part of the team as Jason Hayes and Clay Spenser. It would be difficult to imagine the show without the Belgian Malinois portrayed by Dita the Hair Missile (real name).

Cerberus has been a part of SEAL Team since the CBS military drama debuted in 2017. But it looks like that could change as according to series star David Boreanaz, Cerberus’s future in the opening episode is a “huge story point.”

Fans will remember that prior to the ending of Season 3, Cerberus made a mistake on a mission, leading Brock (portrayed by Justin Melnick who is also Dita’s real-life handler) to remind Jason of what happens when a dog loses his edge. While Jason insisted the dog could have had a bad day, Brock reminded him that while Cerberus is a good dog, a trainer has to know the signs and that he is responsible for knowing when the dog had had enough.

No one is ready for the loss of Cerberus, especially since the dog and team leader, Jason Hayes (portrayed by David Boreanaz) have an emotional connection that will play out in the season-opener as well. Hayes sees a lot of himself in the dog, being tired and possibly not as sharp as he once was. Retiring Cerberus will likely have a detrimental effect on Hayes.

Is SEAL Team really considering letting Dita go?

Melnick says Dita gets all of her shots in one take, (even when she had to climb a ladder) which is impressive for a dog, and may not be the case if Dita is replaced. And since Team Bravo needs a bomb-sniffing dog, another one would have to be hired.

Cerberus has saved the lives of SEAL Team 6 many times and has gone above and beyond in the call of duty. As his actor, Dita has become so much a part of the cast that fans look forward to her scenes as they do the rest. While there is no clear indication on whether or not Dita will be leaving SEAL Team, it’s clear that something will change in the season premiere.
