Where to stream Mulan online
Where will Mulan be available to stream online?
It won’t be long until Mulan is available to stream. Now you’ll want to know when and how you can watch it.
Originally, the plan was to release in theaters. Disney wanted the traditional theatrical window and then would plan to release on DVD and Blu-ray, before making it available for streaming. Plans have changed.
You’ll want to pay attention to this. There are going to be different options depending on the way you prefer to watch.
Streaming Mulan first on Disney Plus
Disney Plus members will be able to watch the live-action Mulan first. There’s a big catch, though.

Unlike Onward, this isn’t going pretty much straight to Disney Plus and Digital. Instead, Disney Plus is making the movie available to purchase through your Disney Plus subscription. For $29.99 you’ll get access to the movie for as long as you have your subscription.
There are a lot of arguments over whether this is financially worth it for many. As a family of four where the theater would easily cost $50 just for tickets, it makes financial sense for us to run with this offer. It is an offer, especially when we get to watch the movie over and over again for as long as we have Disney Plus (and considering we have two kids, we will likely keep that subscription for some time).
The movie will be available from Sept. 4.
For others, this may not make financial sense. So, what other options do you have?
Will Mulan eventually come to Disney Plus as part of your subscription? That’s unclear right now. Disney isn’t going to tell us that this far in advance.
Mulan in theaters and Digital
Where Disney Plus isn’t yet available, Mulan is heading to theaters. What about in the U.S., though? Is Disney really going to skip this?
According to Gizmodo, the plan is to open in theaters where they are open in September. That means, if your local theater is opening up, you’ll be able to head there to see the movie. It’s not clear if this is going to be right away or have an exclusive release in the new Disney Plus format right now.
Don’t worry that this is going to be the case forever. This is a one-off (for now). However, it will be interesting to see if Black Widow is released on Disney Plus in November through the new model. That was always planning on going to Disney Plus, though, so maybe not.
As for a Digital release, we could see this happen eventually but not right away. You’ll likely be able to rent or buy Mulan on Digital through Amazon Video, iTunes, and other platforms in 2021. I suspect Disney will opt for a 90-day window on Disney Plus similar to theaters.
What about Mulan on DVD and Blu-ray?
Finally, we have to talk the DVD and Blu-ray release. Will Disney release the movie in the more traditional formats?
Nothing has been confirmed just yet. That doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen. We’ll likely get it on DVD and Blu-ray in 2021, as we would if the movie went to theaters as initially planned.

Mulan will be on Disney Plus premium from Sept. 4.
