The Sum of Us

Need a comedy? The Sum of Us is the perfect option during the month. Jack Thompson stars as Harry Mitchell, a ferry-driving, beer-drinking widower. Russell Crowe plays his son, Jeff, who is a gay, 20-something plumber. The two live together, making for an odd couple that brings plenty of entertainment.

When Jeff meets Greg, they start to hit things off. However, Greg is closeted and uncomfrotabel with how accepting Harry is of Jeff. At the same time, Harry meets Joyce, who is uncomfortable with Jeff’s sexuality. Will it cause problems for father and son or will they put their own relationship before their sexual ones?

The 1994 movie is available to stream from Sept. 14.

The Sounds

Last but certainly not least, it’s all about the Acorn Original series. The Sounds is a crime miniseries set in New Zealand. Proven Innocent‘s Rachel Lefevre stars as Maggie, who moves to a small town in New Zealand with her husband, Tom. When Tom goes missing and is presumed dead, his secrets start to come out.

Maggie needs to navigate the close-knit community that doesn’t like outsides, historic crimes in the area, and potentially never seeing her husband again. Will she ever learn the truth and get her husband back?

The episodes are released weekly, with the first two episodes dropping on Sept. 3. After that, the episodes will air on Mondays.
