If you’re in the mood to stay woke and possibly lose some sleep, you’ll definitely want to watch Antebellum this fall.

Ready or not, Get Out producers Sean McKittrick and Raymond Mansfield are back, and they’ve put together another seemingly terrifying tale, full of modern, must-see twists and thought-provoking plot points.

Here’s what we know so far about the upcoming horror movie.

Antebellum release date

After COVID-19 related delays, we’ll finally be able to watch Antebellum in a few weeks. The southern-set thriller will officially be streamable on September 18 through Video on Demand.

Antebellum cast

Janelle Monáe stars alongside Dear White People actor Marque Richardson in the film. Jena Malone, Gabourey Sidibe, Kiersey Clemons, Eric Lange, Jack Huston, Lily Cowles, and Tongayi Chirisa also make appearances in the film.

Antebellum synopsis

Directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, the movie is said to weave its way through the past, present, and future, where fears and realizations continue to collide.

The plot follows a budding author named Veronica Henley (played by Janelle Monáe), who is speaking out against systematic racism and somehow finds herself transported and trapped in the old south. More specifically, the Underground Railroad period. Yikes indeed.

As you might’ve guessed, getting out, moving forward, and distinguishing true friend from foe is anything but simple. Or as the trailer puts it, “Whoever you were before, that’s over.”

Monáe has also thrown in her two cents on the anticipated impact of the upcoming horror film, revealing during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Roundtable, “This is a project that is so of the times. I knew the responsibility and the weight of it, and I knew what this character was going to have to go through physically and emotionally.”
