If you’ve ever had second thoughts about a relationship, then buckle up because it’s going to get very awkward and uncomfortable in Charlie Kaufman’s new movie, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, now streaming on Netflix.
Based on Ian Reid’s 2016 novel, I’m Thinking of Ending Things tells the story of a young woman named Cindy, played by Jessie Buckley, who despite having second thoughts about her relationship, agrees to travel with her boyfriend Jake to visit his family. Jake, played by Jesse Plemons, drives Cindy to his parents’ farm, where they are creepily greeted by Jake’s mother, Suzie (Toni Collette), and father, Dean (David Thewlis).

At the farm, Cindy’s life begins to unravel and has no way of escaping the madness due to a snowstorm. The eerie trailer for I’m Thinking of Ending Things depicts the film as a psychological thriller that will leave you with more questions than answers.

Just like most of his previous films, Kaufman will explore the complicated relationship and constant struggle between our bodies and our brains in his latest film. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Anomalisa, and Adaptation all presented conflicts we all have inside our minds. We can all be our best friends and our worst enemy.
