SEAL Team’s David Boreanaz has had a prolific career

Fans of CBS‘s SEAL Team are riveted by David Boreanaz’s character, Jason Hayes. He’s tough, disciplined when it comes to his career, and doesn’t back down from a fight.

In fact, sometimes, he goes chasing them. Those are things most fans know, but there are a few more details that you might not know about the SEAL Team star. Let’s get started.

He played Dido’s love interest in the music video for one of her signature songs.

At the height of his popularity as Angel, the vampire with a soul, Boreanaz starred in the video for Dido’s 2003 hit, White Flag. The video is still popular today, having amassed over 149,000,000 views since it was uploaded to Youtube in 2009.

It was his portrayal of a ghostly woman that helped him get his own show in 1999

In the second season episode “I Only Have Eyes for You” of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, both Buffy and Angel were possessed by the ghosts of two former students who were in love yet came to a tragic end. Boreanaz’s portrayal of Grace convinced Joss Whedon Boreanaz could carry his own show.

"I watched David very emotionally, unabashedly, and poetically playing a woman, and in that moment was like, ‘This guy can anchor a show’ ."

He almost played a DC superhero. on the big screen

While still portraying the lead character of Angel, Boreanaz read for the role of Superman in what would become the movie, Superman Returns. But it was his filming schedule on Angel that prevented him from taking the role.

He did play another superhero in direct-to-video

Boreanaz voiced Hal Jordan, also known as Green Lantern, in the animated movie, Justice League: The New Frontier. The movie debuted on the Cartoon Network on October 18, 2008, with a PG-13 rating for violent content, language, and images. The star-studded voice cast also included Lucy Lawless, Kyra Sedwick, Miguel Ferrer, Brooke Shields, and Neil Patrick Harris.

His dog gave his career the jump start it needed

While he was out walking his dog, Bertha Blue, Boreanaz was spotted by a talent manager, Tom Parziale. Parziale got him an audition for Married…With Children, and Boreanaz ended up guest-starring on the popular sitcom.

He pretended to be a studio head in an effort to get jobs

After Boreanaz graduated from Ithaca College in 1991, he couch-surfed at his sister’s loft in Los Angeles and passed out resumes all around town. He also wore a suit and pretended to be a studio head so he could get onto movies and television lots. Though he didn’t nab any acting roles from his farce, he did successfully blend in on the set of Cheers and manage to get a free lunch because he looked like an extra.

He’s humble about where he is in his career now

Even though Boreanaz has worked steadily on television since 1997 and has legions of fans, he told Parade in October 2019 that he still doesn’t feel like he’s made it.

A hard-working, determined guy, David Boreanaz has brought a lot of great entertainment to our screens. Fortunately, he doesn’t seem to be slowing down as SEAL Team’s fourth season is ramping up production.
