Despite petitions to cancel the movie, Cuties is now streaming on Netflix. The question now is, who will be watching? Here’s how to stream the controversial movie and five things to know about it.
Cuties shook the internet late last month when the promotional art poster was featured by Netflix. Needless to say, it was the wrong image to use. In fact, many couldn’t believe the promo art was real. Of all people in charge of marketing, it’s difficult to believe not one of them objected to the poster.
The streaming titan apologized and changed the image, which is better, but it still left a bad taste in our mouths! The plot of the movie doesn’t exactly change our minds, either. Will you be giving the movie a chance and watching it tonight?
Where can you watch Cuties?
The movie premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. It then had a limited release in France on Aug. 19, 2020, but now it is available to stream on Netflix, beginning Sept. 9, 2020. To watch, you’ll need a Netflix account!
Cuties cast and crew
The French coming-of-age comedy-drama, titled Mignonnes, is written and directed by Maimouna Doucoure. It is Doucoure’s feature directorial debut. The movie stars Fathia Youssouf, Médina El Aidi-Azouni, Esther Gohourou, Ilanah Cami-Goursolas and Maïmouna Gueye.

What is Cuties about?
The movie follows a young Senegalese Muslim girl who grows up around a strict family with strong values and faith. So when she becomes interested in joining a dance group, her family is alarmed and prohibits it. But that’s not going to stop her!
What are critics saying about Cuties?
Despite the backlash and petitions, the movie has an 87% positive score at Rotten Tomatoes. Reviews say the movie “confronts its themes with poignancy and nuance.” Is that enough to make you want to watch it? An 87% score isn’t bad, but we haven’t always agreed with critics.
One thing is for sure, love it or hate it, people are going to be talking about this movie!
