The possible reason Peter Kay disappeared from our screens
British comedian Peter Kay stole everyone’s hearts back in the late 1990s, and it was a no-brainer that he would receive his own show.
Channel 4’s That Peter Kay Thing was then followed by Phoenix Nights, Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere, and more. By the mid-2000s, Kay was certainly already a household name, and fans were thrilled when BBC’s sitcom Peter Kay’s Car Share premiered in 2015.
However, in more recent years, Peter has stepped out of the spotlight. In 2017, he even cancelled his stand-up tour, only citing “unforeseen family circumstances” as his reasoning. Although fans certainly want to respect his privacy, people have been wondering if he’s okay, and what he’s been up to.
What happened to Peter Kay?
Public appearances by Peter are rare nowadays, with recent photos of the comedian slim to none. But now, Express.co has dug up old interviews in which the 47-year-old funnyman alludes to his choice to stay out of the media’s attention.
We know that the reason Peter cancelled his tour because of family issues, and in an older interview, he dished, “Being a dad is just brilliant and fantastic. You can’t put into words what it’s like,” adding that there’s “nothing better than family.”
Peter has apparently spoken multiple times about how fame is not as important to him as family, and even seemed to dislike being in the spotlight in general. In a 2003 interview, he shared, “I just feel I’ve got to have time to be the other things I am in life: I’m a father and a husband.”
It seems Express.co is strongly theorizing that Peter chose to step away from fame to be with his family, and considering these “unforeseen family circumstances” forced him to cancel his tour, perhaps something went wrong. The fact that the publication uses the phrase “heartbreaking reason” is curious. Of course, this is all up for speculation, and we really hope that is not the case.
Here’s to hoping Peter and his family are in good health, and if we’re particularly lucky, we’ll see him on our screens once again.
