PEN15 Season 2 is now streaming on Hulu
Our favorite seventh graders are back for more awkward, cringeworthy, and funny moments! Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine return as 13-year-olds in the second season of Pen15, which is now available to stream on Hulu.
The brilliance of Pen15 lies with the two stars, Konkle and Erskine, who play teenage versions of themselves in the year 2000. The duo, both 33 years old, is surrounded by actual 13-year-olds as they interact seamlessly throughout the show. Anna and Maya are social outcasts trying to navigate the pressures that many middle schoolers face on a day-to-day basis.
In Season 1, Anna and Maya began the show as inseparable best friends nervous to start the seventh grade. The show tackles issues that are both specific to the year 2000 and all-encompassing to teenagers in any era. Some standout moments from the first season include episodes about boyfriends, AIM screen names, and thongs.
The ninth episode, “Anna Ishii-Peters,” which is regarded as the show’s best episode, dealt with the fallout from Anna’s parent’s decision to file for a divorce. The episode received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
