Whether you watch it live on The CW or when it’s ready to binge on Netflix, fans can’t seem to get enough of In the Dark. The drama series follows protagonist Murphy (played by Perry Mattfeld), a blind woman who takes it upon herself to figure out what happened to her friend who was murdered.
Between her lack of vision and drinking habit, Murphy has had a real challenge in front of her. The series is certainly captivating and mysterious, and now that season 2 is over, people are wondering when the popular show will be returning.
Here’s everything we know so far.
Is In the Dark cancelled?
The good news for fans is that the show has not been cancelled! According to Newsweek, The CW series was renewed back in January 2020. That same month, Mattfeld took to Instagram to seemingly celebrate the news, sharing a photo with co-star Casey Deidrick (who plays Max Parish), writing:
“THIS is Hollywood, people. And thank you to those who have supported our quirky show. We are so excited to continue telling this story [heart emoji].”
In the Dark season 3 release date
Unfortunately, however, it doesn’t look like the series will be returning anytime soon. As Netflix Life reports, delays due to COVID-19 pushed back many productions for The CW. This led to the network pushing back its fall 2020 shows to winter 2021, and because In the Dark was originally slated for a midseason premiere, that means we’ll likely be seeing season 3 later than usual.
Season 1 of the series premiered on April 4, 2019, with season 2 releasing on April 16, 2020. If there were no delays in production, it’d be safe to assume season 3 would come out in April of 2021, however that doesn’t really seem possible anymore.
Fortunately, The CW shows are now getting back into production again, with Riverdale season 5 just beginning to start filming this week in Vancouver, Canada.
Here’s to hoping In the Dark can resume sooner than later, and we’ll be getting season 3 at some point in 2021.
