If last week’s episode of Lovecraft Country was your first viewing of the show, you might think the show is a slasher full of blood and guts and every scene. The episode may have been an outlier, but nonetheless, the message about black women and race was extremely powerful. Now, the show will turn to Tic and his time in Korea on the next episode, which airs tonight.
As previously mentioned, the last episode highlighted the experience that many black women face in America. Titled “Strange Case,” the episode focused was predominantly told through the eyes of Ruby. Thanks to a magic potion supplied by William, Ruby was able to experience what it’s like to live in the skin of a white woman named Hillary Davenport.
As Hillary, Ruby was able to peacefully walk around white neighborhoods, receive free ice cream, and secure her dream job at Marshall Fields. It’s important to note that when the potion wears off, the white skin peels off, leaving Ruby as a bloody mess.

At first, Ruby enjoys the power and recognition she receives as a white woman. However, after witnessing the racial prejudice against black people when she was a maid at a dinner party, Ruby decides to ditch the potion and remain a black woman.
Before she leaves her alter ego behind, Ruby exacts revenge against her boss, who assaulted her fellow black coworker, Tamara, and leaves him rattled and severely injured. In a bloody twist, Christina reveals that she has been using the same magic potion as Ruby to become William.
Lovecraft Country Season 1, Episode 6 preview
At the end of the fifth episode, Atticus cracked the code to one of the pages with the message of “DIE.” Tic knows exactly what and who this is about. The next episode will finally shed light on the mystery surrounding Tic’s time in Korea. Who is Ji-ah and what happened to her in Korea?
