A breakdown of the live TV ratings from Thursday, Oct. 1

Things got off to a mixed start in October when it comes to the live TV ratings. We’re breaking down the metrics for Star Trek: DiscoveryPress Your LuckBig Brother, and more.

When it comes to the new episodes, all the demos were up or steady. Star Trek: Discovery had the best demo uptick with a 50% increase. It was only up to a 0.3 rating, which is on the low side for CBS. The total audience was steady but low with just 1.69 million viewers.

It’s worth remembering that CBS opted to bring some of its streaming content to the network to offer something “fresh” for fall TV. Many people have already watched the series, so it’s a little like watching a rerun for them.

I don’t think the ratings are even that bad considering the show is bingeable on CBS All Access. It’s not like CBS has put any extra money into this, so the ratings are a bonus and it works while we wait for normal fall TV to resume.

The rest of the live TV ratings for the night

All but ABC had a bad or steady night in the total audience. CBS’s Star Trek series wasn’t the only steady audience. Big Brother remained steady with 4.19 million viewers. It did pull in the best demo of the night at a 1.2 rating, and a 4.5% increase from the previous Thursday episode.

NBC aired new episodes of The Wall and Dateline, both seeing a downward tick in the total audience. The Wall‘s was minimal with a steady demo (and coming off the fourth season renewal), but Dateline dropped 13% in the audience. It was up 12% in the demo, though. This isn’t anything bad for the true-crime series, which remains a staple for the network.

The CW and FOX opted for reruns. Mysteries Decoded was an updated episode of its Season 1 Salem episode, and it was steady on the previous week. We’re still waiting for Mysteries Decoded Season 2 news.

ABC had the best night of the lot. Despite Celebrity Family Feud losing 4.6% in the total audience, the 5.02 million was the highest audience of the entire night. The show also ticked up 14% in the demo to claim the second-best demo of the night.

Press Your Luck was up in both the demo and total audience, while Match Game was steady in the demo and up in the total audience. Both shows won their timeslots.
