Everything we know about the New Amsterdam Season 3 release date and more

Let’s get started with some good news first. New Amsterdam Season 3 is officially happening. NBC renewed the show last year for three seasons, so there is no fear of saying goodbye to those at New Amsterdam Hospital just yet.

What we don’t know is when the series will return. It was originally slated for fall 2020, but due to the coronavirus and filming not being able to happen as normal, the show was quickly pushed to the midseason.

There isn’t a lot of information out there about New Amsterdam Season 3 just yet, but we can update this post as we get it. For now, here’s everything we know about the third season.

New Amsterdam Season 3 release date

Let’s start with the release date. There isn’t one just yet. While the show was originally intended for the fall, NBC pushed the show knowing that filming wouldn’t happen properly right away. There are a lot of extra health and safety protocols right now.

The show could return in January, but it hasn’t started filming yet. We’ll get more of an idea of a potential return date once the cast and crew are able to get back to work.

When New Amsterdam Season 3 does return, it should be still on Tuesdays at 10/9c.

New Amsterdam Season 3 cast

The majority of the main cast is expected to return. There wouldn’t be a show without Ryan Eggold as Dr. Max Goodwin. However, he’s certainly not the only one who makes a mark on the show.

We can also expect the following to return:

• Janet Montgomery as Dr. Lauren Bloom
• Freema Agyeman as Dr. Helen Sharpe
• Tyler Labine as Dr. Ignatius “Iggy” Frome
• Anupam Kher as Dr. Vijay Kapoor

We also hope to see the following return, although they’re not series regulars yet:

• Alejandro Hernandez as Casey
• Dierdre Friel as Ella

We will see Daniel Dae Kim return as the new doctor, Dr. Cassian Shim. He was brought in for the super flu (more details below) and stuck around for the episode afterward. It’s not clear how long he’ll be around for, but we’re hoping for a fair amount of time. Who doesn’t love Daniel Dae Kim?

The only actors we’re not sure about just yet are Jocko Sims as Dr. Floyd Reynolds and Margot Bingham as Evie. Evie got a job in San Francisco during the second season and Floyd agreed to move there to be with her. However, it seemed like an unceremonious goodbye, as if our favorite cardiologist will be back.

New Amsterdam Season 3 trailer

There isn’t a trailer just yet. With nothing to film, the show only has old footage to put together.

There is the potential of a temporary trailer to put together. One episode from Season 2 never aired due to it being about a super flu and was set to air at the beginning of the pandemic. The creators decided it wasn’t the right time to air it back in March. There’s a chance the trailer will be released to air a special episode sometime later this year or early in 2021.

New Amsterdam Season 3 synopsis

There isn’t a synopsis just yet. We left each of our characters with some big storylines. Max had just broken up with his girlfriend, opening the chance for him and Helen Sharpe to finally get together. However, things with Dr. Shin are going to cause problems for Max and Helen.

Meanwhile, Iggy is dealing with binge-eating. It’s a topic that isn’t often covered on a TV show, so I am interested to see how New Amsterdam Season 3 deals with that. Then there’s Kapoor who has had Ella move in with him. Ella is having his grandson, which will certainly cause some disruption in the house.
