A breakdown of the live TV ratings for Wednesday, Oct. 14 2020

Networks mostly chose specials or new episodes of TV shows on Wednesday, Oct. 14. How would they all fare in the live TV ratings?

We’ll start with a look at NBC and ABC, both of which had specials. NBC hosted the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, which was sadly not the biggest draw of the night. It did pull in 3.57 million viewers and a 0.8 demo rating, though. Not too bad.

More from Ratings

ABC aired the movie Coco in the first two hours of the night. It pulled in 2.18 million viewers and a 0.5 demo rating, which isn’t bad considering the 2017 movie has probably already been watched by most, and it is on Disney Plus. This is one of those movies that parents will put on for their kids just because it’s on rather than plan for it.

After CocoThe Con debuted, a series hosted by Whoopi Goldberg about people conned into relationships too good to be true. It didn’t do as well as it could have in the fall, especially coming off the back of a movie for families. It pulled in 2.28 million viewers and a 0.3 demo rating.

The live TV ratings for new episodes

CBS, FOX, and The CW had new episodes of TV shows. FOX would win the night with a new episode of The Masked Singer. The ratings were up from the previous week, as another member of Group B was unmasked. The show won in both the demo and the total audience.

However, viewers wouldn’t stay tuned for I Can See Your Voice. The show lost another 8% of viewers and was down another 16% in the demo. This isn’t anything to worry too much about right now, as the numbers are still good for FOX. In fact, they remain the second-highest of all TV shows on the network, behind The Masked Singer. This will partially be due to pandemic-proof programming, but it’s still a sign the Ken Jeong series isn’t going anywhere.

CBS didn’t have the greatest of nights with Big Brother and a new season of The Amazing Race. The first reality show of the night did remain steady in both metrics compared to the previous Wednesday results.

It was The Amazing Race Season 32 premiere that wasn’t that great. The series debuted to a loss of 40% in both metrics compared to the Season 31 premiere. The numbers were about the same as the Season 31 finale. It is too early to tell what this means for the series, so there’s little to worry about for now. We’ll just keep an eye on the series.

Finally, it’s over to The CW, where Devils and Coroner both aired new episodes. The Patrick Dempsey-led series started, remaining steady in the demo but losing almost 8% of its audience. This is just the second episode, so a drop is expected. We’ll see how the TV ratings steady.

Coroner saw an upward tick in the audience by almost 10%. For the second episode of the second season, this is excellent news. There’s a lot of hope that The CW will acquire the third season of the Canadian crime drama with these results.
