Here are 5 true crime dramas to watch on Netflix during the month of October

Are you looking for something to watch on Netflix this October just in time for the spooky season? Besides the usual Halloween related content, there are plenty of documentaries and movies for you to enjoy, from historical to true crime dramas. Both new and old, there is something for everyone, whether a movie about an infamous killer or a gripping documentary.

Luckily, there are always new releases coming, such as The Trial of the Chicago 7. Along with this real-life drama, you can also find other related films to watch in the true crime genre. Here is a list of dramas to add to your watch list this month.

More from Netflix

American Murder: The Family Next Door

This new documentary tells the story of Shanann Watts, a pregnant Colorado woman who was murdered, along with their two young daughters, by her husband, Chris Watts. In addition to body cam footage, the film draws on social media posts, videos, and text messages to tell the story leading up to the day of the murders.

Zodiac

Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr. star in this drama depicting the hunt for California’s Zodiac killer. Still unsolved to this day, this gripping film tells a dramatized story about the efforts to find this elusive individual.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile

It may seem like an actor such as Zac Efron playing Ted Bundy is a curious choice. But when you take into account how charming Bundy was described to be, Efron is an unsuspecting, but really good choice to take on the role of this infamous killer.

Frozen Ground

Vanessa Hudgens stars in this 2013 true-crime drama about an Alaskan killer, Robert Hansen, in the ‘70s. Just knowing about his crimes alone is enough to make your skin crawl and this film is a chilling look into this story. In addition to Hudgens, it also stars Nicolas Cage as a detective on the hunt for the killer, and John Cusack as Hansen.

The Highwaymen

Starring Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson, The Highwaymen follows two former Texas Rangers as they hunt the infamous Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. This is an interesting take as it follows the point of view of the investigators looking for the duo. If you are into historical true crime stories like this one, this is a good movie to watch this month.
