A breakdown of the live TV ratings for Friday, Oct. 16 and Sunday, Oct. 18

Another weekend has come and gone. There’s not as much on TV throughout the weekends (right now), so we’re collecting the live TV ratings for Friday, Oct. 16 and Sunday, Oct. 18 in one post. That doesn’t mean it’s not going to be as valuable.

Friday, Oct. 16 saw new episodes of The Greatest #AtHome Videos and Masters of Illusion. New seasons of Shark Tank and 20/20 also started. The ratings were a little mixed.

Meanwhile, Sunday, Oct. 16 saw baseball take over FOX, so no Animation Domination lineup. However, ABC, CBS, and The Cw had plenty of new episodes.

Friday, Oct. 16 in the live TV ratings

Not all networks fared well on Friday night. Masters of Illusions was the only show that saw positivity across the board. It remained steady in the demo, at its usual 0.1 rating, and was up 37% in the total audience. While the numbers are on the low side, this is The CW, and Masters of Illusions proves to be an excellent rerun option for the network.

More from Ratings

World’s Funniest Animals didn’t get the same positivity. While steady in the demo, it was down 4% in the total audience. This show is still a good rerun option, with the rerun episode in the half-hour afterward coming in higher than the new episode! I think it will be renewed.

CBS had a mixed night. The Greatest #AtHome Videos was steady in the demo but down 4% in the total audience. That’s not too much to worry about considering the cost to create the show.

Undercover Boss saw better results, and much better compared to last week. While down 3% in the audience, it was up 33% in the demo rating compared to the season premiere. Sometimes, it’s all about promotion and who the undercover bosses are going to be, so CBS may be on the more lenient side with this lower-costing show (compared to scripted programming).

NBC had a new episode of Dateline after a rerun of American Ninja Warrior. The episode was down 14% and 20% in the audience and demo respectively, but there’s nothing to worry about this just yet. The show remains a staple on NBC, and I’m sure it will stay that way for some time.

Meanwhile, ABC had new seasons premiering of Shark Tank and 20/20. The former was steady in the total audience from the previous season premiere, but it was down 18% in the demo. This probably isn’t anything to worry too much about since the show was the best of the night in both metrics.

20/20 was down 13% in the total audience and 46% in the demo. While it pulled in the best audience of the timeslot, it was third in the demo.

Sunday, Oct. 18 live ratings

Sunday was on the quieter side, especially with a full night of sport on FOX and NBC. FOX had the baseball, which drew in 6.4 million viewers and a 1.9 demo rating. That’s higher than what Animation Domination would arguably have been, but still not enought to beat the football.

NBC aired the football, which pulled in 10.19 million and a 2.8 demo rating. It didn’t beat FOX’s run with the NFL earlier in the day, but was still the winner of the night from 8 p.m.

ABC had new episodes of American’s Funniest Home VideosSupermarket Sweep, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, and Card Sharks. They were all new seasons, all seeing a big dip in the ratings compared to the previous premieres. However, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire previously had the benefit of being one of the only shows airing during the pandemic, so the previous numbers are skewed. We’ll see how the ratings setting.

60 Minutes aired on CBS, losing 28% of its audience and 52% of its demo. This isn’t uncommon for a show that airs after the football some nights. It’s nothing to worry about. The network has brought back Sunday movie night, and it was Ferris Bueller’s Day Off in the 8 p.m. slot. It did fairly well with 2.74 million tuning in.

The CW had a new episode of Pandora, which was steady in the demo and up 6% in the total audience. This is a summer show, so the lower ratings compared to other fall shows on the network isn’t that surprising. The ticks up are encouraging, though. Usually, a show will lose some audience members after the first episode of a new season. This is the second week in a row that the audience has ticked up in the live TV ratings. It’s still not as good as Season 1, but it is encouraging for a renewal.
