A breakdown of the live TV ratings on broadcast networks from Tuesday, Oct. 20

While FOX aired the first game of the World Series on Tuesday, Oct. 20, other networks had new episodes of a lot of TV shows. It’s time to break down the live TV ratings for the night.

We will start with FOX’s ratings. It shouldn’t be too surprising to hear that the World Series was the best performer of the night, but only just in the total audience. It pulled in 7.74 million viewers (just ahead of the 7.45 million that tuned in for The Voice on NBC) and gained a 1.9 demo rating.

What would be the best elsewhere? We take a look.

NBC won the night with The Voice

When it came to regular programming, the first Tuesday night episode of The Voice aired on NBC. And yes, it did win the night in the audience outside of sport. However, it was a 10% drop from the Tuesday premiere last season.

The demo was at 1.1, which was joint first with The Bachelorette on ABC. This was down 32% from the Tuesday premiere of the last season. This isn’t anything to worry about, thought. The results are still positive in terms of overall viewing, so there’s no need to worry about the singing competition yet.

Because of The VoiceTransplant had its best night of the whole series on NBC. It jumped up 100% in the demo to a 0.6 rating from the previous episode and was up 50% in the total audience to 4.3 million. These figures are up from the 3.9 million viewers and 0.4 demo for the premiere.

ABC, CBS, and The CW in the live TV ratings

Out of the other networks, only The CW had a full night of new episodes. CBS opted for reruns of NCIS and FBI in the first two hours and then a new episode of The FBI Declassified. ABC had a new episode of The Bachelorette but followed it with a rerun of Supermarket Sweep.

For CBS, it did suffer a 23% dip in the audience and 55% dip in the demo for The FBI Declassified. Will there be another season? It’s hard to call, as CBS knows that the lower figures aren’t usual. They’re linked to the need to offer new programming when the usual fall suspects aren’t available.

And CBS wasn’t the only network to see a loss. The Bachelorette was down 18% in the audience and 25% in the demo. This is the second episode of the new season, so its not all too surprising. The demo was still joint top with The Voice out of the regular programming, but the total audience was behind the rerun of NCIS.

As for The CW, there were dips in the total audience for both shows. Swamp Thing lost another 9% and Tell Me a Story dipped 15%. The shows had the chance of a second life on The CW, but it’s still debatable whether they will be saved with new seasons after this.
