A breakdown of the live TV ratings for Friday, Oct. 23 and Sunday, Oct. 25

The live TV ratings for both Friday, Oct. 23 and Sunday, Oct. 25 are in. The 2020 Word Series, Big BrotherUndercover Boss, and much more aired new episodes. Here’s a breakdown of how well the shows performed.

Both nights, FOX aired the 2020 World Series. It won the night on Friday, pulling in 6.22 million and a 1.4 demo rating. While down from the previous nights, it’s on par for Friday night programming and performed much better than the WWE that usually airs on Friday nights.

Sunday, the World Series was about back to normal, with 7.41 million people tuning in and a 1.7 demo rating. It wouldn’t be enough to win the night. That was given to CBS, and not just because of the football!

Friday, Oct. 23 live TV ratings

We’ll start with Friday night, where there were new episodes of shows on ABC, CBS, and the CW. NBC then ended the night with a new episode of Dateline after a rerun of American Ninja Warrior.

More from Ratings

The CW performed the best of the night, with both Masters of Illusion and World’s Funniest Animals seeing upward ticks in the audience and steady demos. There’s no need to worry about the two shows, as they’ll become strong staples. Even the rerun of World’s Funniest Animals performed well.

Big Brother saw a 50% downward tick in the demo and 27% downward tick in the total audience. Some of this may have been due to Fridays not being a usual night for the unscripted series, but it could also be a sign of the disappointment after no Backdoor used earlier in the week.

The downward ticks continued for CBS with Undercover Boss losing 25% of the demo and 18% of the audience.

It wasn’t alone. Shark Tank and 20/20 were both down in double digits in the demos and down in single digits in the audiences. Dateline also fell by 20% and 4.5% in the demo and audience respectively.

Considering everything fell and it was up against the World Series, the networks probably won’t make decisions on the future of the shows just yet. Plus, despite the dips, they were still the top-rated programs of the night.

Sunday’s ratings for new episodes

It shouldn’t be surprising to hear that the NFL Overrun was the best performance of the night. This comes off the back of the Sunday afternoon game, which is when most people will tune in.

The Overrun may have helped 60 Minutes tick up 71% in the audience and 166% in the demo. However, this was also the Presidential special of the season, focusing on both Trump/Pence and Biden/Harris. Trump had already leaked some of the 60 Minutes interview because he was so annoyed by it, so everyone wanted to see what the fuss was about.

In the end, the show was the best of the night outside the Overrun in the audience, pulling in 15.63 million viewers and a 2.4 demo rating.

Sunday Night Football on NBC pulled in the second-best metrics of the night in the audience, with 12.01 million viewers tuning in. It had the best demo at a 3.6 rating.

ABC and The CW had some new episodes. American’s Funniest Home Videos ticked up in both metrics for ABC, making it clear that this show will likely be renewed. However, All three other shows ticked down. Supermarket Sweep had the biggest audience loss of 27%, while Card Sharks lost the biggest demo at 25%.

We’ll need to see how the shows steady to determine if they’re going to be renewed.

Pandora was the only new show on The CW. While it remained steady in the demo, it did dip 6% in the total audience. This is on the low side, even for The CW, at 0.34 million viewers. However, it is usually a summer show and has been moved to the fall for the pandemic-proof programming. That may save it since The CW will have something for next summer.
